Sabbath
Seventh Day Sabbath
Not to Work on Sabbath
Exodus 20:10
Yearly Sabbath
Sabbath Day Notes:
Sabbath begins at night (even):
Nehemiah 13:19
19 And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem began to be
dark before the sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut,
and charged that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and
some of my servants set I at the gates, that there should no burden be
brought in on the sabbath day.
The seventh day made Holy:
Genesis 2:1-3
1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of
them.
2 And on the seventh day YHWH ended his work which he had made; and he
rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
3 And YHWH blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in
it he had rested from all his work which YHWH created and made.
The Sabbath is the forth commandment:
Exodus 20:8-11
8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of YHWH thy Strong One: in it thou
shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy
manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that
is within thy gates:
11 For in six days YHWH made heaven and earth, the sea, and all
that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore YHWH
blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
The Sabbath is a everlasting covenant:
Exodus 31:16
16 Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath,
to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual
covenant.
Observe the sabbath in your home:
Exodus 16:29-30
29 See, for that YHWH hath given you the sabbath,
therefore he giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days; abide
ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the
seventh day.
30 So the people rested on the seventh day.
Leviticus 23:3
3 Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the
sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it
is the sabbath of YHWH in all your dwellings.
Kindle no fire: No cooking or heating nothing up
Exodus 35:3
3 Ye shall kindle no fire throughout your habitations upon
the sabbath day.
Pursue no pleasures on the sabbath:
Isaiah 58:13
13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing
thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy
of YHWH, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own
ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:
No burdens on the sabbath:
Jeremiah 17:21-22
21 Thus saith YHWH; Take heed to yourselves, and bear no burden on
the sabbath day, nor bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem;
22 Neither carry forth a burden out of your houses on the sabbath day,
neither do ye any work, but hallow ye the sabbath day, as I commanded
your fathers.
Only the priest must leave their dwelling to set up the daily
offerings to YHWH:
Numbers 28:9
9 And on the sabbath day two lambs of the first year
without spot, and two tenth deals of flour for a meat offering,
mingled with oil, and the drink offering thereof:
10 This is the burnt offering of every sabbath, beside the continual
burnt offering, and his drink offering.
